What up, Pinecones?

We wanted to let y'all know that thanks to your feedback in our Plurk poll, we've settled on what seems like the simplest system for you guys to collaborate on and play with the optional false Wayward Pines memories mechanic.

A summary for those still digesting the info-pages:

As a totally optional (but highly encouraged) side mechanic, as new characters begin to remember their actual memories, they also begin to remember false ones in which they grew up in the town of Wayward Pines. These can be solo memories, like the park they went to as a kid or the desk they sat in during homeroom in Wayward Pines Academy, but they can also involve other player-characters.

These false memories should keep the characters at least mostly IC, but other than that, they don't need to have any real adherence to canon. Two characters may have been friends back home, but these false memories could say they're siblings or enemies or maybe just strangers passing in the street. The only real rule is to only include false memories involving characters whose players have agreed to the same memories! This rule is in place because all false memories are relatively cohesive and if Character A remembers a false memory with Character B, B would by nature remember the same memory with A.

While canon memories typically return completely by two weeks into your character's stay, false memories will continue to spring up as time goes on, presumably jogged by familiar faces, places, or activities. This allows you to build new false-memory CR with characters even if they've come in months after your own character arrived.

A HANDY STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO FALSE MEMORY FUN:

• Step 1: Create an entry on your character's journal. This will be your Wayward Pines false memory plotting repository. It doesn't have to be fancy, you can leave it totally empty, but if people want to hit you up for false memory plotting, this will be the place they can do so. (Consider using the entry to state your false memory plotting preferences and/or to keep a running list of the false memories you've established so far!)
  
  
• Step 2: Reply to the Taken page with your character's name and a link to your new false memory plotting entry. This will go next to the link for your IC inbox in the taken list.
  
  
• Step 3: (Optional.) Reply to this entry with your link, as well as a brief blurb about what kinds of false memory CR you're looking for. The actual CR meme is in less than a week, but this will be a good place to chat soon enough to use it in your intro log threads.
  
  
• Step 4: (Optional but suggested.) Include the link to your false memories plotting page in the appropriate section in our upcoming CR meme.

I GUESS I'LL BREAK THIS POST IN.

Here's Bucky's false memories page. So far the only memory he has right now is that he's been friends with Steve and Natasha since childhood. And Nat kicked him in the balls. Other things I've figured for his Pines backstory: he tried going to college for a year or two, dropped out, joined the army, and once he was done with that (possibly due to losing his arm in some kind of incident he doesn't remember), he returned to his hometown of Wayward Pines. He works as a mechanic at S&D Automotive.

THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT. I'm open to pretty much anything, but I'm not going to be playing with the false memory mechanic too much with Bucky. So basically, we can establish mutual past encounters/memories/etc that your character may remember, but Bucky may not remember as many of them, himself.

OH ALSO, I'm hoping to have his alternate life be something reminiscent of ~what could have been~ if he hadn't been captured and brainwashed by HYDRA. So I'm looking for positive associations, big brotherly sentiments, etc. more than angsty memories.

I'm good with Bucky being the Salvatore's apprentice. Any underhanded dealings likely were kept from Bucky as he didn't have a high enough pay grade. But, I'm sure Damon treated him like a little brother, though, not his.

Jefferson | OUAT

And here's Jefferson's false memories page! I'm planning on playing with the false memories mechanic way more with Jefferson, so that he's stuck with THREE LIVES IN HIS HEAD: Real Jefferson, Curse Jefferson (a false set of memories put in his head by the Dark Curse-- hence the memories marked "curse" in the memories page), and Pines Jefferson.

So a fully fleshed out life for Pines Jefferson would be p great. Established so far: he and Howard are exes who both refuse to move out of their house, and he owns and manages a tea room.

I'm leaning towards his Pines persona also being known as a bit of a weirdo and a high-strung drama queen where's the lie tho. OTHER THAN THAT, IDK.

cos this guy won't remember anything. he's got his memory page here and, aside from some useless knowledge, he won't be able to tell his ass from a hole in the ground.

as for any pines memories, he won't have any. he'll discover that he owns an electronics and repair business (SHIELD's Electronics & Repair) and that he shares a house with his douchebag ex-boyfriend, jefferson. BUT OTHER THAN THAT? he is open! jefferson will have some memories about howard and their relationship (and may even make some memories up lmao).

i am planning on messing around with the amnesia mechanic so, in the future, he will experience blackouts and have trouble retaining and recollecting information. but that won't be for another few weeks, i think

Howard's exactly the type of person Damon might take a liking to (or the opposite), but it may be more rich with potential for them to be friends, maybe getting drinks every once in a while, especially after that break-up with his good for nothing ex.

I don't have a page yet, I'll pull one together later tonight after work but, there are only a few snippets of ideas. Damon partially owns S & D Auto Repair with his brother, Stefan. He apprentices Bucky. He's actually really nice in person, very non Damon like, a lot like before he was a vampire, but underneath is a seedier side from a difficult childhood. Playing around with the idea of light gambling behind the scenes and being a minor bookie (and not as nice as he looks.)

He's going to therapy with Jiaying secretly.

And that's what I have.

He also took lunches every day at local watering holes, so, if you want CR in passing there, we can talk about that.

Here is Corstine's memories page. She hasn't started getting them quite yet, but when she begins regaining her real memories she'll start getting fake ones at the same time.

Basically the idea I've got for her is that she's gonna be a shitty small town rebel. Doing petty crimes, getting a facial tattoo out of spite, doing drugs in the back of a van, etc. She'll remember being a bad influence and a shitty role model and just generally being a shitheel.

Also she goes to counseling with Jiaying - although mostly at the prompting of others or when she wants something from her fake Wayward Pines parents and is trying to convince them that she's changed and is totally worth their time now (she is not).

I don't have a lot of specifics planned, though, so hit me up if you'd like to have Corstine's fake past intersect with your character in any way!

10K | Z Nation

Basically, 10K has led a pretty reclusive life for the last 10 years or so; mom died of cancer at 8, dad pulled him out of school after his mom died to homeschool him, then died when 10K was 16, leaving him without a high school diploma but with a lot of wilderness survival training and basic handyman skills. He's survived since then doing menial labor (construction, mowing lawns, moving crews) and taking on odd jobs around town.

I'd be interested in people who knew/were friendly with his parents, distant family or cousins, schoolmates from the Before Times, employers either past or present, and "current" friendships.

He will remember being in a freak hunting accident that caused the bullet hole scarring in his temples. He'll probably remember growing up in an orphanage and maybe being bounced through a couple of foster homes. Dropped in and out of school before stopping entirely at age 14 and just did odd jobs around the town to get away from his caretakers until he hit 18 and got out. Probably hung with a bad crowd, although he tended to be the friend that talked them out of trouble. Worked at the cafe for a couple years and then a bar until his current age (22), a bar that shut down just before his accident.

Mostly, Butch remembers working as a landscaper for 20 odd years and doing random jobs around the Pines before that. He's the dad friend that everyone always gets car rides from. Never married, never had children, mostly spent that extra energy getting up in everyone else's family business. Probably knows everyone in town somehow and is generally on good terms with them?

so i have a page here but it's..... empty rn. i'll update it soon, but until then

here's what i have in my head so far re: pine memories -

a) ellie goes to the local school and she's... a bit of a trouble maker. like, she does the work and she's not a bad student, academically, but she has a knack for trouble and spends a lot of time in detention. or should do, when she isn't skipping.
b) yeah, she skips school pretty regularly. not everyday, but enough for her to remember being escorted back to school mid afternoon pretty often. so i am looking for a store owner or... business owner or whoever who's cool with a teenager just hanging out their premises instead of school?
c) also people who tattle on her skipping are good too lol. tho she'd avoid you like the plague.
d) she also needs school friends! i'm not sure how many kids/teens are in the game, but i'm all here for anyone school aged that ellie might hang out with. they could even cause trouble with/skip classes with her
e) her parents died when she was very young and she lives with a guardian (maybe an aunt/uncle) that she doesn't remember much of atm.

It's not anything impressive, but here's Noah's memory page! Look at it, in all its empty glory. I'll put things there soon and pretty it all up! But here's a quick rundown of what's going on with the resident teenage ghost:

Most importantly!!
He doesn't realize he's dead. Fun times right? All of the memories that are associated with his murder are also conveniently the ones that he doesn't remember. (He thinks the permanent smudgy-bruise by his eye is just a really slow healing injury from his accident.) At some point in the future it'll come back to him, but until then he's just as confused as the rest of the world as to why weird stuff keeps happening to him.

As far as the false memories go, I haven't really got it all ironed out and I'm still toying around with different ideas, so I'm open to literally anything you want to throw together. Let's brainstorm! Here's a few things I've got bouncing around so far:

- He's an average high school kid, so what does that mean? You guessed it, he attends the local high school, where his school uniform looks completely out of place, and yet everyone tells him that he's attended since he was a Freshman. I'll likely have him often confusing Aglionby memories with his Wayward Pines HS memories. (Probably earns him strange looks now and then, but so does randomly appearing/disappearing, reading minds and existing in all states of physically fading away.) Pretty average as far as academics goes, enough to make sure that he's passing, but probably not getting a call from Harvard anytime soon and he spends most of his free time skateboading.

- He has Wayward Pines parents, people talk about them, they claim that they all attended Christmas Parties and Fourth of July BBQ's, but Noah never sees them anymore (if anyone asks, he'll reply that they're traveling for work, or that they'll be back later.). He has memories from being a child with his parents, but there's hardly much more as of late -- it sort of feels like he hasn't seen them in 7 years. huh. weird.

- He does odd-jobs around town; deliveries for different shops, dog-walking (some animals seem oddly perceptive to him, he'll notice.), lawn mowing, and generally whatever else the little old ladies of Wayward Pines ask of him.

And that's about it so far, if you want to throw some ideas at me, then go ahead! We can discuss them and make them fit somehow

Posted here with current selection of memories and preferences detailed within! To reiterate the preferences:

I'm generally looking for broad strokes with a handful of specific memories when it comes to Steve's memories of his "life" in Wayward Pines and his relationships with other people, as opposed to mapping these things out in their entirety. Large swathes of missing memories are fine and welcomed. His wayward memories should simply resonate with his trusted memories, mostly to make things awkward for him. I'll be keeping an open mind as I play him, though; if something seems right for a thread and our characters down the line, I'm happy to go with it after discussion! I might also be open to your character having memories of Steve that he doesn't; I think it'll have to come up in gameplay before I can be sure how I'll ultimately come down on it.

He'll also be ~resuming his teaching posts so I don't have to worry about making him find a job when he'd rather fight the man. So I welcome any CR garnered that way, unreliable memories or not!

First of all, I'm open for planning any variety of false memories together. I made a list of ideas to expand upon the initial memories Malia has. Who knows if I'll use all of them! There's a thorough list on her page. But here is the list re-phrased for actual plotting:

1) Someone who may have connections to her human father? Someone knowing him? Vaguely or otherwise. (I'm thinking that he could have either tried to leave town one too many times or got himself into trouble after the accident where his wife and youngest daughter died + his oldest (Malia) ~disappeared~ ; spoiler alert: Malia is completely alone because l o l yep)
2) Friends / pack (supernaturals and humans alike. she's 18-19) ; (with the story of her moving there when she was little, childhood friends/adults who knew her when she was 8-9 can be a thing too)
3) People who are in a love with the woods as much as she - EXPLORE THE WOODS WITH HER PLZ
4) An anchor? A fake one? Who knows? Maybe?
5) School times + tutoring
6) A job $$$$ holla dolla

Also, I'm planning for her to have memories of counseling with Jiaying.

Lastly - she's waffling on acting less on her coyote instincts as a catalyst from the pull of wanting to know more about what the hell's been going down. As a result, she's currently more outgoing, less abrasive, although will jump at suggesting violence and outright or partially breaking them there rules in casual convo. Whoops.

Basically Jiaying's Wayward Pines identity is a good-natured kind motherly woman who teaches Mandarin in school and does counseling on the side. She's been at it for maybe two decades (she ages remarkably well hushhh) and has her own small office in town.

The easiest false memory route would be to take her up on her counseling sessions, which she may or may not accept payment for depending on situations. Sometimes people can get away with repaying her with a promise. Other options include childhood friends, close friends, coworkers, young adults she's watched grow up, etc.

I'm pretty much looking to give her a pretty regular life among the humans the real Jiaying has come to loathe for maximum terrible, so later on there's the option of her manipulating the same people she shares a false memory with for her own gains. (with ooc permission of course)

after jefferson and howard broke up, he was given jiaying's info to ease him "through the pain and heartbreak." he won't have the memory but he'll find her business card and a npc will fill him in on the details (maybe jiaying was used for couples counseling by howard and jefferson?? and lmao will be used again as howard and jefferson try to not kill each other as roommates??)

So far for false memories she thinks Ignis Scientia is her cousin and her dad raised them together (how babin' is that family, seriously), and that... she and Prompto are married. On purpose, and everything. So that's fun!

She retains the very real memory of having held the rank of Commodore, and I'm toying with the idea of her having been a lowkey shit when she was young until a pretty serious (and as yet undecided) fuckup lead to her joining the military in an honest effort to straighten herself out. If that seems like a stretch, please imagine a tiny Ignis looking at you with eyes full of disappointment and tell me you wouldn't ship out just to get him to stop. But the point of that is! If you want fake memories with her there would be an easy in on your character having been a co-shit, or having been in boot camp together or something like that.

I'm also very open to anything else people might want to suggest! Honestly once you get to the point of "Aranea and Prompto are married" anything goes.

Basically he believes he grew up with Aranea as cousins, that Gladiolus is a best friend, that Noctis is a brat and basically he doesn't know them for who they are. Which is great because otherwise he would just stick with those guys. As for real memories, he remembers working in the citadel, that he had three close friends, had an amazing car and would often cook and come up with new recipes. So Ignis will usually be found in and around restaurants, cafes and the likes sampling the menus or just drinking copious amounts of coffee.

To be honest I'm open for any kind of cr and false memories and will be happy to hash them out. I even don't mind enemies, rivals and the likes so hmu and we can figure something out.

(warning for suicide mention.) it's pretty mundane for the most part, beyond the death of his sister, and there's a lot to fill in! tl;dr he is born, his twin dies in childbirth, his parents are kind of distant weirdos, he loves his sister a lot but she dies under suspicious circumstances, he gets depressed and then later depressed again, then becomes the neighborhood weird priest.

i'm looking for: old family friends, childhood acquaintances/friend-ish things, people who've been offput by his weirdness, awkward friends, people he might have had weird confusing romantic feelings for or vice versa #beingapriestistough, pta rivalries, volunteer partners ? ? ? idk hmu.
