june's ooc intro!

WELCOME TO THE PINES!

And welcome to our monthly out-of-character intro post. Come say hello to your fellow players and drop a line here so others can get to know you and find out the best ways to contact you, as well as see who you are bringing in! (Current players are also encouraged to use this post to let us know about new characters.)

Don't forget to check out this month's important dates for a peek at what the coming month is going to look like. It will continue to be updated as more dates solidify behind the scenes, especially regarding June's event(s).

Our in-character intro log will be going up June 1st after midnight EST; keep an eye on our mod plurk (thepines) for that as well as all future announcements.

Hello one, hello all! My name is V., and together this fella -- Dirk Gently (né Svlad Cjelli, alias Project Icarus) from the recent Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency BBCA series -- here I am, climbing in yo' window.

Dirk is, as the title of the show implies, a holistic detective. Please ask him what the hell that means; he loves giving the spiel. What it doesn't entail is psychic ability, which is for the best. If Dirk is a psychic, which he unequivocally is not, thank you, then he's a pretty terrible one. It's entirely possible, though, that he is something, and that something might look an awful lot like a psychic if you squint. Certainly he's an absolute ray of sunshine, if the sun shone largely because it was terrified of doing anything but. His is a fun little canon, full of mystery, intrigue, corgis, kittens, sharks, rhinoceroses, and great gobs of murder. It's great, wholly encourage watching it so I don't have to try to explain it to you.

I'd love for him to eventually continue tentatively plying his trade here -- finding the whole person, the whole solution to the whole problem (lost cats and messy divorces a specialty) -- but I'm also intending to give him a job assisting at the herb shop, where sharp-eyed characters may also notice, in keeping with the shop's general aesthetic, that fortune telling is now on offer, a trade Dirk plys (or resigns himself to, more accurately) when cash is particularly tight. He's awful at it, generally deliberately, and yet his predictions are wont to be bizarrely accurate (much to his chagrin), if usually absolutely useless.

Regarding false memories, I hadn't dug too far in there yet, but I'm happy to hash things out! Blanket permission is granted to anyone who wants their character to remember having met him as a child, and to know him therefore as Svlad, as he hates the name and I enjoy tormenting him.

Also, hello! I'm Tilly and I was excited to see Dirk on the list of received apps! I have Aranea Highwind from FFXV here. She has a lingerie store called Britches and Hose and due to being increasingly pissed off with the shenanigans in town, has a sign up in the window offering to answer questions. FIGHT THE MAN.

I also laughed at the messy divorce comment because she has one of those too, whoops.

A pleasure to meet you, Tilly! c: I'm excited to be here, and looking forward to throwing Dirk out into the world, bemused and blinking and ready to blunder into trouble. By all means, come be a bad influence on him. :'D

(And haha, I wish I could claim credit for that comment, but I nabbed it from his business card in the first novel! Clearly this CR is meant to be.)

Hello Rory! I'm definitely looking to grab Dirk some acquaintances! I'm not currently in the market for lovers, but just about anything else is on the table. Friends I can most certainly do, close or otherwise, and while he's pretty innocuous he can also be pretty irritating, so less-than-friendly is also something I'm game for. Oh my god, yes, please do. The Eagle Kerfuffle doesn't happen in the show, but Dirk makes an offhand comment in the first episode about some of his previous cases -- "a bit about a sofa, a thing with Thor" -- and I choose to believe that it did more or less happen before the show. All headcanon, but if I have a chance to include that mess, why would I ever choose not to? So... yes. Yes.

I am delighted to meet you, Mel! Not just because you bring me a hawk/Dirk's abject terror, but because I can bring you the latter of those things in turn. Honestly, I can't wait. :'D

i'm so happy thor still got stuck in an airport in the tv show (i will ascribe to your head canon as well obviously), this is so very important to me honestly, i need to believe it happened the same way. (i need to go back and read these books again i honestly love them so much)
