All you really need to know is that his methods of investigation are... somewhat unorthodox. He calls himself a holistic detective in reference to his 'convictions as to the fundamental interconnectedness of all things'. The universe, he believes, will lead him where he needs to go, and therefore after being hired he 'will eventually solve the mystery merely by just kind of doing whatever'. He follows his sixth sense. Sometimes his seventh or eighth. Sometimes other people.

He has no idea what he's doing virtually ever, and yet... well, he's solved a few cases, anyway. Wacky hijinks, in short, are not just possible, but in fact integral to his method for solving cases. :'D
