You shouldn't even be talking to him. You're just a kid, he doesn't want to see anything bad happen to a kid.
(He seems to mean it less like 'you're just a kid, you can't do adult things' and more just that Laura shouldn't have to be the one to deal with anything terrible. Either way, he makes no actual effort to leave her there, whether or not she should be talking to him in the first place.)
