It was about six inches deep at the shallowest, and until the construction project went underway, it was at least a foot from the nearest shoreline on the river-facing side.

No signs of recent digging, save for that of the construction crew. Anything before that, if it existed in the first place, has been wiped away by plenty of days of rainfall and a three-foot-deep blizzard.
