Nyx wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the body alone while Jack and Iba go get help. Animals could get to it now that it's exposed, or something worse, and then they wouldn't have a body to inspect.

He'd be in full guard mode. Probably holding onto the shovel just in case. He's used to long hours when they're necessary and is unlikely to fall asleep until Jack returns with help.
