kinda love that in a cast of people who mostly look human there's one disguised alien robot and one alien centaur who could be in disguise but has absolutely no interest in doing so
Animorphs does have some immortal robots with wildly advanced hologram tech who can receive thought-speak, and Andalite computers can also pick up on it - but Animorphs is a series where there are several other thought-speaking aliens so it's just practical for Chee to hear, and of course Andalites would design their tech to be able to hear them. Hmm... That would be fun! What if the difference got split and Knock Out could tell there was some signal being sent but the message was mostly lost?
also as a military Andalite Alloran knows an alien sign language, and I asked on the FAQ if the translation thing means a) he knows ASL and b) other characters can understand ASL. But even there, a lot of ASL involves the mouth or facial expressions.
