My current plans for Alec is for him and his family to fight their way to the hospital. If he saw the kids trying to get through, he'd split from his group to get them to safety or guide the kids toward the fighters.

Alec's part of the battery keeping the wards going at the hospital so he can't get too far away from there once he's inside. (Unless it was for the rescue mission). Things related to defending the hospital he'll happily be recruited for. He's seen too many kids hurt in wars to stand by and let them fend for themselves.
